Pilates originated from the 18th Century by a man called Joseph Pilates. He suffered from childhood with rickets, asthma and rheumatic fever. He used a combination of yoga, gymnastics, ski-ing, self-defence, dance, and circus training to device 36 postures that built a system of balance, strength and flexibility.
Modern day Pilates uses a kinder approach and with the guidance of physiotherapy techniques and movement therapies (such as Alexander technique) it continues to evolve without the rigid set of rules.

Fridays – 9.30am – Fitness Pilates – Standing, circuit and mat Pilates.
Lelant is very close to St. Ives, Hayle, St. Erth and Carbis Bay.
I also offer Private Classes either as One to One or for a small group.
If you haven’t done a Pilates class before, I suggest you start with a Beginners or Gentle class, even if you are fit you will need to learn how to hold your core and work through the exercises. As soon as you have achieved this you would be able to take it to the level you feel suits you.
